Source
Every OpenBook release comes with the source of its open-source parts and the scripts that built them.
OpenBook is built from public Android 17 source, Google's Android kernel, Mesa and systemd-boot, with OpenBook's own changes. OpenBook's development repository is private for now. The corresponding source of everything in the image under the GNU GPL and LGPL is published with each release, in github.com/Mhsbrian/openbook-releases.
What each release includes
| File | What it is |
|---|---|
SOURCES.md | What is where, and how to build each part |
…-source-kernel.tar.xz | The kernel exactly as built: Google's Android common kernel with OpenBook's changes, the Kleaf build files, OpenBook's kernel modules, nouveau and NVIDIA's open modules, the pinned manifest and the patch series |
…-source-userspace.tar.xz | The Android projects whose programs in the image are GPL or LGPL, and Mesa with its libelf |
…-source-systemd-boot.tar.xz | The boot loader's source and its packaging |
…-source-build.tar.xz | OpenBook's scripts and configuration that built those parts and put them into the image |
aosp-manifest.xml | Every Android project in the build, at its exact revision |
Build from source
SOURCES.md in each release has the steps. In short:
- Kernel: sync the public projects at the pinned manifest with
repo, apply the patch series, add OpenBook's module tree, and run the recorded Kleaf command. Kleaf brings its own compiler. - Mesa's libelf: build the Android NDK container from
tools/Dockerfile.mesa-androidand run thedepsstep ofscripts/mesa-android-build.sh. - Android projects: AOSP's own build, at the revisions in
aosp-manifest.xml.

Release checksums are signed with OpenBook's release key, SHA256:p2CHvoYmi9AsCB98uyBn4kp/rpc7eDWDeeL9rAKi8Ec: allowed_signers for ssh-keygen -Y verify, and the public key. The install guide shows the commands.
Missing something?
If a source file is missing or wrong, open an issue at github.com/Mhsbrian/openbook-releases and we will publish it. The offer stands for three years from each release's date.
